Our Children's Church

Google

May 3, 2008

We had our children's church quarterly activity today, and I am tuckered out! All the kids had a great time though. They didn't want to leave! We played a ton of games (thanks, Ultimate Camp Resource )! McDonald's cut us a deal with some 50% discounted hamburgers, and of COURSE, the kids loved that! You just have to ask, folks, you just have to ask! :-)

No one has written to complain that I bold-faced LIED about getting the newsletter out... but you should be writing and putting me to shame! What is my issue with not being able to pump out... an issue?! I have this mind block that it has to be *perfect* and that it has to be about my interview with Bro. Tim Crumpton who I interviewed last JULY, for heaven's sakes! And of course I can't even remember what he said! But I did record the whole thing ~ trouble is, my mini-tape recorder needs batteries; and that's just another EXCUSE for me to not get the newsletter out! So someone just PLEASE give me permission to write about something else just to get the ball rolling, for crying out loud! Crumpton Family ~ I love you, and I promise that one day I WILL publish your interview... after I get batteries!

I feel much better now. And ready to launch a newsletter.

Here are some great deals for Mother's Day:

Thanks to all who have been praying for our friend Andrew Stringer. He has consumed most of our time and energy lately, so I haven't worked much elsewhere within the website!

We did have a great Easter Sunday yesterday! We were pleased to have a missionary with us in our children's church ministry. He did our children's church lesson, followed by our annual candy hunt. So we really didn't have much time for any extra activities (like I had hoped!). But maybe next year...

I wanted to let everyone know (for accountability, so I'll be sure to go through with it) that I actually plan to launch the much-overdue newsletter this week! I also have several other pages worth of new content in the planning stages, so stay tuned...

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

Please remember our friend Andrew Stringer. If you are following the updates, I moved them here.

Hi! Life is still buzzing (as usual), but I am brimming with ideas for this website, our children's church ministry, and my other site.

We are looking forward to Easter Sunday this month, which also happens to be the first day of our church's annual Missions Conference. If you have any great ideas for us that would incorporate both of these themes, please let us know!

We were pleased to have a visiting family at church this past Sunday... with seven kids!!! And five of them were old enough to be in our children's church (I got to keep the other two cuties in the nursery during Sunday School). We were going to invite the entire family over for lunch, but they escaped before I caught them; and they didn't come back Sunday night. Not that I had any idea what on earth I was going to feed 15 people with no notice?!?! Oh well, I guess that's what Little Caesar's is for!

Pray they come back this week! We're going to try to visit them Saturday when we do our children's church visitation. And I'll put a big crock pot of chili on Sunday morning, just in case...

I'm back! If you have been a frequenter of this website, perhaps you've noticed that my blog has been terribly outdated lately. In case you haven't heard, we finally welcomed our baby girl into the world: Abigail Joy McPherson! It's been a joy, though a challenge, to parent four children under the age of six; homeschool; and remain active in our children's church ministry. The website has been on the back burner, but I am now eager to resurrect it and add a lot of new content that has been bubbling in my brain!

I am also excited to announce the early construction stage of our new website: www.afford-to-stay-home.

I have some exciting ideas brewing for that website as well and hope you'll take a moment to look around (it will only take you a moment, since the whole site is currently only a few pages long!).

Also, if that topic is right up your alley, take a look at this neat e-book I stumbled across last night:

Okay, enough of my "spaghetti bowl" enthusiasm, as my husband says. I suppose you did come here to learn about children's church ministry after all, right?!

We are currently sketching out our 2008 calendar for children's church. Yes, I know that should already be done by now; but I've been busy with a newborn, remember?! My husband and Pastor have scheduled a monthly meeting/workshop with all of the children's ministry workers at our church, and Chris is going to instruct them using the Super Seminars manual from CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship). I am looking forward to that; CEF has awesome material for children's workers.

We are also planning some fun quarterly activities to be announced soon (I don't want to blow the surprise, in case some of our children's church kids are reading this!). But don't worry; I'll come back and share with you after we get the letter home with the kids. You're bound to think we're insane once you see some of the things we have planned.

We're excited to be well into another year with our children's church ministry as well as with the website. As always, if you have any questions or ideas, please don't hesitate to contact us! Just use the button on the left in the nav bar!
