Children's Church Offering
We collect a children's church offering each week in our children's church ministry. The purpose of this is two-fold:
1) To begin to teach the children the scriptural principle of tithing and giving;
2) To give to the ministry of a worthy missionary or missions program.
Of course, you may elect to put your offering in the church's general fund or donate it toward the bus ministry or something. We have just found that our kids are really intrigued by missionaries, and it excites them to give to this cause.
When we reach $50, we allow the children's church kids to choose a missionary to give the funds to. If there is an upcoming missions project, we set a goal for getting the $50 by then. So far we have never failed to reach a deadline.
One year we had our church-wide annual Missions Conference. A missionary couple to Uganda (with 5 kids -- Amen! and Oh, me!) helped in our children's church on the opening day of the conference, and our children's church kids elected to donate the offering to them. The family was very happy and thankful, and I don't think it was any coincidence that we "happened" to hit $50 that day!
Our next children's church offering goal was to send a donation to a national pastor in India who was holding a massive evangelistic conference. Our church had pledged to send them $5000 (which we exceeded), and the CCBC children's church ministry had our part in that blessing!
Another time we once again hit $50; and after being offered three choices, the children voted to give the money toward our own pastor's upcoming missions trip to India and the Philippines.
