Make your "problem" child, your Star child

by Carla Short
(Indianapolis)

As with many of the suggestions, Positive reinforcement is POWERFUL Stuff! Jesus didn't go around yelling at everyone for not sitting down, shutting up and listening quietly. He loved them. Very quickly, you will most likely learn the name of your "problem child". Try to identify 1 thing "Sam" is good at. If you notice that the class is listening to him and not you, then build Sam up by applauding him for his leadership skills. Let him read the Scripture anytime there is one. Make sure Sam knows that people will listen when he reads, because they see him as a leader. Also you must let Sam know know that he must use his powers for good and not evil.
He is a leader to those in the class. Now Sam feels good and has a place and a purpose in kids church and a social standing among his peers.
