You Have to Do Exactly As God Says ( Based on the story of Naaman)

by Cindy Langford
(Fayetteville, TN)

Items to have on hand. Ketchup, sugar, salt, flour, mustard, grape jelly, These things were in the refrigerator at church. You might have a different list. On the side have the ingredients to make some simple drop cookies with a recipe.

Tell the children that you are going to make some cookies. Look at your recipe and have the children help measure the flour, and the sugar and put it in and then say when you get to the raisins or chocolate chips, " Well I do not have these so I am going to put in some ketchup". The look on the kids faces is priceless. Say, " do you think this is not going to work?" Then ask why and continue to add ingredients that do not work. Tell them the story of Naaman and that he did not want to follow God's directions but when he did the Lord Healed Him, but he had to do it exactly how the Lord instructed him. Then do the recipe as it is written and bake and share cookies. You can also use this in conjunction with the comparison between David and Saul and david following the Lord and Saul doing what he thought was best for the end result of disaster ( not waiting on Samuel or God) Or use it with the story of how the Levites had to carry the ark and had to do it a certain way and how David in his zeal wanted to bring the ark back and it shifted and the man died as he caught it. But when the Levites cleansed themselves and the ark was brought back correctly as instructed by the Lord it went well.
